If you work with VMware technologies (or Broadcom, as it’s now called), today is a good day to be in London. The London VMUG — or #LonVMUG as it’s known on socials — is holding its July 2026 meeting, and it’s one of those events that punches well above its weight for a free, community-run day out.
What is VMUG?
VMUG stands for VMware User Group. It’s a global network of local communities where people who work with VMware (and now Broadcom’s portfolio) get together to learn, share war stories, and talk shop without a sales pitch attached. There are hundreds of chapters worldwide, and the London chapter is one of the most active in Europe.
LonVMUG runs four meetings a year. Three are held in London with around 100 attendees, and once a year they scale it up into a national event in Leicester that pulls in 500+ people. Today’s meeting is one of the smaller, focused London ones — which, honestly, is where a lot of the best conversations happen.

The venue is in the City, a short walk from Fenchurch Street and Monument stations. OVHcloud are hosting this one, which is a nice change of scenery from the usual spots.
Expect the day to kick off around 9:30 with a welcome and housekeeping from the organising team, then sessions running through the morning and afternoon with coffee and lunch breaks in between. Proceedings typically wrap up around 4:30, and if past events are anything to go by, there will be vBeers somewhere nearby after.
What to Expect on the Day
Sessions at LonVMUG tend to be a solid mix. You will usually get a couple of Broadcom engineers or product managers talking about what’s coming down the pipeline, a few vendor-sponsored talks (the sponsors are what keep the event free, so it’s a fair trade), and then some community sessions from practitioners who actually run this stuff day to day.
The community sessions are often the best ones. There’s something genuinely useful about hearing from someone who’s been in the trenches with VCF or NSX and isn’t there to sell you anything — just to share what worked, what didn’t, and what they wish they’d known earlier.
If you haven’t been before, the crowd is friendly and there are usually plenty of first-timers mixed in with the regulars. Nobody expects you to have all the answers. Half the value of these events is the conversations between sessions, not just the sessions themselves.
Lunch is provided free of charge — sandwiches, wraps, that sort of thing — and there are coffee and biscuits throughout the day. If you want to bring your own soft drinks, nobody will mind.

Registration is free and handled through the VMUG portal at vmug.com. You will need a VMUG account (also free) to sign up. Even if you’re heading in today, it’s worth registering so the organisers can plan for numbers.
