Why this blog exists

I write up what I build so other people don’t have to work it out from scratch.

The VMware community got me through my early years: forums, blog posts, and the occasional stranger who had documented exactly the problem I was stuck on at 11pm. RSTechHub is my way of giving some of that back.

It started as a home for my own notes. Too many fixes I’d found once ended up lost on old laptops and in closed tickets. Writing them up properly, in public, means they’re still here next time, for me and for anyone else who hits the same wall.

Everything here comes from my own lab or real project work. The scripts I share are free on GitHub, and when something goes wrong, I write that up too.

What you’ll find here

Mostly VMware. VCF architecture, NSX, vSAN, hardening, certifications. Written the way I’d document it for myself: the actual commands, and the parts that trip people up called out explicitly. Some posts are short. Real work is like that.

Background

Over 20 years in IT infrastructure. Server rooms, client engagements, and a lot of late-night lab time.

I specialise in VMware and virtualisation, alongside enterprise storage, networking, and security. Most of my work is designing and building infrastructure from scratch for large organisations, shaped around what they actually need rather than what the datasheet says. The technology is usually the easy part. Getting the design right, and getting everyone to agree on it, is the work.

Warranty

None. Opinions here are mine, not those of my employer or any vendor mentioned.

Everything on this site comes out of my own lab. It worked for me, on my kit, on that day. That is not a guarantee it will work on yours. Read the vendor documentation before you touch production. Take the snapshot. Break it in the lab first, not at 2am on a Sunday change window.

I accept no liability for downtime, data loss, production outages, or broken environments resulting from anything posted here. RSTechHub is an independent, community-run blog, not affiliated with or endorsed by Broadcom Inc. (including VMware offerings), Cisco, Microsoft, AWS, or any other vendor discussed.
